Why are my cattle drinking their own water
As soon as they p they turn around and drink it
Is it a mineral deficency, and , what mineral?
Already gave them grovite with no change

why do you think it is a salt deficency
They get pre calver licks and regular bolus dosing??????????

Cattle will sniff, lick at another one who is urinating. Bulls often do this to pick up "information" as to if a female is coming into heat. All this is normal bovine behavior.

If, on the other hand, one's cattle are peeing in a pot, trough, or other container and "drinking"??? the urine...duh...if they pee onto the ground, don't think there would be much (if any) urine to "drink up".... ;-)

They seem pretty adept at licking it off the ground
Cattle are Charolais x Belgian Blue and are all healthy with calves and weigh around 16 cwt-800kg
Is this an Irish phenomenon

My brother says cattle that do this must have originated in India. ;-)

Anyway......so happens I decided to google this and found something that might help you. AND, it's an Irish publication believe it or not. Talk about karma!
