I have thought about the effects for moving cows north from the south and south from the north. Is there a better time that you should buy/move to ward off some of the chances of getting sick? Sure not in the dead of winter but the other seasons? How long to get acclimated to an area before winter hits ie: say from Texas to Missouri? Wondering as I am thinking about Santa Gertrudis(to cross for star 5) or already star 5 cows/heifers. Thanks for any input.

Move 'em mid-fall when fescue is less toxic and well before winter starts.

The weather influence wouldn;t be much of a concern as long as while they are being hauled it isn;t extreme, either hot or cold. Personally I would be more concerned about hauling in the heat. The biggee is as was mentioned. The conversion to a fescue diet when they are not used to it will take a couple of years.

I would either do it in late winter (late Feb/early March) or in early fall. Now, just as a personal note, have you talked to any of the Gert breeders in MO, or are you set on getting them from Texas? I could help get some feelers out if you need to.
