MAD COW CASE IS A POSSIBILITY

OTTAWA--Scientists are studying samples in a possible new case of mad cow disease after a preliminary test showed a 'presumptive positive,'' a Canadian Food Inspection Agency official said Sunday. Results of more rigorous tests could be available this week.

GOOD NEWS!

BIG MUDDY CONFIRMED THIS FOR ME;

Old news Guys .

FYI, the Houston Chronicle ran an old piece of news (link attached)
indicating that CFIA is currently testing a presumptive positive sample
for BSE - CFIA has confirmed that there is no presumptive positive in
the works. It appears this story is outdated news referring to the case
that was diagnosed in January.

I'm still waiting to see if CFIA has been taking lessons from the USDA- learning how to leak info and then later hide it all...

Maybe the Canadians have learned how to grease the right politicians palms like is done down here- sure prevents a lot of positives.......

Oldtimer,

I followed the link posted and even did a search of the Chronicles archives, and can not find the article with today's date.

Also, why on earth would you suspect the CFIA to cover up BSE when they have worked hard to be transparent? Don't you think that would be a bit redundant?

Prevention of positives up here has been by testing and eradicating, not by the three S system - if Canada had been going to follow that particular route, don't you think we'd have done that with the first case and not cases following the one that did all the damage to our industry?

Also, I don't think you'd appreciate it if some Canadian were to make a such a grossly incorrect post (ie.America has another possible BSE case), so what's the deal??

Personally, if you'd lived through that crisis I personally doubt you'd find it a laughing matter.

Please consider these points in the future.

Thank you for reading this response.

OT, I never thought you were the kind that would get so much pleasure out of some other cattlemen's misfortune. No matter where they're from. Guess I was wrong about you. I tried your so-called link and couldn't find anything. Neither can I find anything current at MeatFYI.

You sure seem to have changed a lot in the last year or so, Oldtimer. And I don't mind telling you that I've lost a lot of respect for you. You couldn't wait to post that crap, but now you don't want to correct it. Some of you R-CALF protectionists almost make me ashamed to be a U.S. cattleman.

Cattleannie- Like flounder says- I picked this off his post on ranchers.net- and his info has always been quite credible......

I read these sites to get the news- and many times get the news long before it is released... The best example is when the news was "leaked" days before USDA released it that the Washington cow was from Canada...

I didn't post this to make anyone feel bad- altho sometimes it is fun to pick on the "Snipey Canucks"- those that have to snipe at anything you post or any news article --the frenchies, Tams, cowmans of the sites.....

But that said- I also think it is vitally important that US producers and consumers know the true extent of the BSE outbreak in Canada since in the months to come the Canadians and the Packers are going to push USDA to open the border to OTM beef and cattle...And they need to be aware that new cases are showing up- some having been born years after Canadas feed ban went in effect... To me this creates too high a risk to US consumers and the US cattle herd- and needs to be stopped again.... And if the USDA is so completely bought out that they can't do their job, we may have to have Congress do it again....

Is the CFIA completely trustworthy? If so you are lucky...I have become very suspicious of our USDA and government as a whole after watching the daily revelations of lies and deceit- flubs and coverups- and in many cases outright fraud and criminal activity...

Maybe CFIA is taking lessons from the US government and USDA and learning how to lie- or trying to keep things under wraps because every new case makes it tougher for USDA to open the border :?: .....

Oldtimer,

Thanks for the response.

I truly appreciate your view of how important knowledge of the true extent of BSE outbreaks is crucial when one is in the agricultural industry, but personally have no reasons to date in regards to doubting the transparency and honesty of the CFIA.

Hopefully time does not prove me wrong, but then again, I've been wrong many times in the past and certainly anticipate being wrong in the future at least once or twice. ;-)

Take care.
