Calf V1
Great Grand dam J4
Grand dam Q5
Dam T1

My calves get numbered with the year letter followed by a number in order of birth. V1 is my first one for the year, her mother was the first born 2 years ago, grand dam and great grand dam both were amongst the first calves born in their years. This cow family has excellent fertility.

How many times have you gone through the a[phabet ?
I haven't got through it yet but I am coming up on cows I bought initially with the same letters. Angus Australia have recently decided it might be a problem and for the last couple of years they include the year number in the registration eg this heifer is QNJ22T1, a bit of a pain in the ar$e when looking them up I forget what year the letter was.

We use the international letter code. This is the M year. I use a cow family number with the yr letter. Gets a bit complicated with a BIG family. Half my herd is my #3 cow family.
So, I have to carry the cows yr letter to the newborn's tag.
Cow 3G - calf is 3M
Cow 3D - calf is D3M
Cow Z3D - calf is ZD3M
Can be confusing, but anyone can walk thru my herd and see cow families.
You system is nice to ID your fertile myrtles!!

For some reason the international letter is not used Jeanne, most breed societies use the same letter as Angus Australia, I'm pretty sure Simmentals are the same too.
I identify my cow families by carrying on the cows name eg this heifer that calved would be Lode Creek Alexis T1 and her calf will be Lode Creek Alexis V1. Their ID for looking them up will be QNJ22T1 and QNJ24V1, QNJ is my herd ID given to me by AA.
