Can you guess what breeds this heifer is a cross between? She is 10 months and last week she weighed 880lbs. What do yall think about her?

No, Rocksprings not Beefmaster but close and yes her father was something black.

I'm thinking there may be some Simmental in there, with the ear (size & location) and the leather on the neck. Nice looking, heifer straight back and nice capacity.

Nope, no Simmental, Limosine or Angus. She does have a little Brahman.

No Angus???? Wonder where the black is coming from?

Hmm good question and if there is Brahman in her most has been breed out. Cute halter.

She looks a little on the smaller frame than what I am use too. I am guessing she is a Limo X Brangus? :cboy:
Hill Creek, If an 880 lb 10 mo. old hfr not being over fat is smaller framed than you are used to, you must have not been around very much or don't know cattle. Probaly both.

I think it is just the angle on her that I thought made her look smaller framed, not weight. I was guessing that she weighed 900lbs., but that she is just not the frame score that my cattle are.

Are you saying that 20 lb in a pic you can tell that much about the frame score. A bite of feed and 2 gal. of water would have put her at 900 lb.
What frame score are your cattle?

She is a Saler X Gert cross. Her momma was a 15 year old Gert cow, and the bull was a registered Saler.

I would have never guessed that in a million years. i should have gotten the gert part from the beefmaster hint, but i always forget that the Saler, Galloway, Dexter, and South Devon breeds exist. She sure looks like a plain ol' black limousin.

Wow, another new one on me. I know that Gerts are still red. Thought Salers were too, guess they must be going black. Oh well, lots of things I don't know, this just adds to the list.

i didnt know they had black ones either. probably wouldnt know a red one if i saw one.

It's amazing how all these red cattle can turn black all of a sudden without any black genes in them.
Wonder if CAB has anything to do with that.

I just visited the american saler association site. Couldn't find a red one on there. Didn't look real hard though. Guess they went with the trend to "go black".

Macon has one of those antiquated red ones on the breeds page:

Ive never liked the looks of the breed or the bags that ive seen so far. thats why i forget about the breed i think.
