Camping Customs???????

We have tons that live in the dang things and move in to several parks around here for the winter, next spring they migrate out.
That is when the locals vacation in.
Just not enough room for this old boy and the Mrs. for a week livin much less 365.

Brute this is pretty simple you look at my generation or before that worked until old age.
Starting with whatever the late 70's to 80's generation is called has been a quantum shift.
This bunch doesn't even want to leave home much less work. The progeny of each succeeding generation is getting worse.
Do you really think this is an accident. Again the powers to be through indoctrination through the media and schools have shifted
the country moral fiber and thinking. This is so Orwellian it is scary what the future holds.

I HATE hotels
Camping forces the family to be together doing things, that I can't force on the farm
Camping keeps the farm from interfering with down time
Camping keeps housework from interfering with MY down time. We ALL make a mess for a week, then we ALL clean it up and go home to a clean house, with just laundry to catch up on.

But DO NOT neglect Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
She symbolically told in this novel what had, is, and will happen in this country.

I have camped in a tent and in an RV and the RV wins. Going on a tent trip, you have to take the time to gather up and organize all your gear and you live out of boxes and bags while on your trip. A hard rain or high winds can make the trip miserable. An RV has a stove, storage for your cooking supplies, etc. already built in. Going somewhere for the weekend on the spur of the moment? Grab some clothes and some food and you are ready with an RV. Also not sharing a shower with potentially hundreds of other campers is nice, too. For a real remote area, the tent is the only way. For a weekend at the lake or an extended vacation trip, the RV is the only way to fly. Yes, it is weird to have closer neighbors on a "camping" trip than what you have at home. But I don't have a nice big lake at home, or other attractions. So I will put up with the people to be there.

You'd probably be amazed at some of the "animals" or "nature" you'd see in something like that. Be sure and take the camera. :lol2:

That's so funny! I've often passed those cramped lakes, hard by the side of the interstate, stuffed to overflowing with RV's, and have wondered aloud what the heck the attraction was. I would be claustrophobic for sure. Glad to know I'm not alone in wondering what the heck is up with that!

Give me several miles of mountain wilderness, my backpack, good hiking boots and good company. Beach? Nah.

I know some places at the beach where there isn't another person for miles. Of course this is the North Pacific so bring your coat. There may be a few days in mid summer when you don't need that coat but best bring it with you because you never know.

We used to tent camp, then got a truck camper, then bought a 5th wheel. I can't go back to tent camping...it's too painful in the morning.
With an RV I have all the amenities of a cabin (oftentimes more) and it's (for me) more comfortable..... and cleaner. Hate staying in hotels.
Yes, you lose a lot of mobility. There are some places you just can't go with one. I won't do the sardine campgrounds though.
We don't call it camping either. We're going fishing and taking the camper along for comfort. It's pretty nice to be dry and warm when a good rain (or snow) comes along. I can cook great meals inside or out. Clean up with hot water. Take a hot shower if I want. Don't have to go outside to answer nature's call. Sleep in a cozy comfy bed...No it's not camping exactly, but it's still a lot of fun.

I'll pass on Cancun, too. And the beach, for that matter.

I have stayed in plenty RV trailers on hunting / camping trips. My dad has a 28' that I use sometimes. I flat refuse to stay in an RV park. The whole point is to get away and being surrounded by 300 townies playing Rocky Mountain High is not my idea of getting away. When I really want to get away I go with the boots, back-pack, pistol, rifle and knife and live like a mountain man for a few days. Sometimes I go with a tent and cooler of food. Other times I pull the trailer and take it as remote as I can safely pull it. I bring a generator and fill the tanks with water. I don't rough it near as much as I used to as it is tough getting this broken up body off of the ground after a night under the stars but I cannot see doing the RV park thing at all......I'll just get a motel room and a nice restaurant meal before I will do that.

There is a past time that people do in my neck of the woods that I don't quite understand; camping. I'm not talking about finding a nice place in the woods, pitching a tent, gathering wood, and building a fire, and spending the night. I'm talking about buying a big camper, driving to the lake in the next county, and parking in a camping area where other campers are, staying a few days with all the comforts of home, and calling that fun.

Maybe it's because i live on a farm. I can look out my window and have a possibility of seeing turkey and deer anytime. I have fields, woods, ponds, creeks, etc. I once thought that campers were for road trips, and that people would rather stay in those than a motel. but why in the world would I want to buy a camper and drive to the next county for a week? :?:

I realize that not everyone in my area lives on a farm, but it's still a very rural area. It's not like they're surrounded by skyscrapers and never even see a squirrel.

Is this a popular activity where you guys are from?

Same here! I see a lot of those over-sized, overpriced, motor homes pulling a car going down Hwy 83 in front of us. I can't think of a more awkward, difficult thing to navigate and stop for fuel every 10 miles or so...lol. I'll stay home and watch the cows and horses, thank you... After all I did some "required" travel with my parents when growing up and later, driving my MG Sports Car to night clubs, etc. After all, that's what "National Geographic" and selected TV programs are for! LOL.

I am at a rodeo this weekend. I just got out of a shower hot enough to scrape hair off a hog, turned the a/c down to 65, and climbed in a nice soft memory foam bed. I can't imagine it any other way.

I chased them rodeos up and down the road for some years. We never had those comforts. And I traveled with a couple of guys who won world championships. All I have to say is you must have a good job to support your rodeo habit.

For many families, I think the idea of "camping", is just getting off the home place for a little while so the work isn't staring you in the face. You can push it to the back of your mind for a little while and call it a vacation. Of course, it doesn't work for workaholics!!
My husband likes to go to the Boundary Waters, he and a group with go once or twice a year. Hike/canoe in to a remote lake with absolutely primitive conditions, fish, swim, BS around the campfire. Of course, rain and high winds have made it more of an adventure more than once! I can't take sleeping on the ground anymore, nor long hikes. Hips hurt too bad! Dang I'm gettin' old.... :shock:

My day has come and gone. These are youth rodeos for my kids. I have 3, they all compete. I trade on trailers. It's the the only way I can justifye the expense. I don't make a ton on them, but its better than losing on depreciation if I bought one for myself.
