My brahman heifer is finally starting to show signs of pregnancy, and she is acting like she is about ready to have her calf. Not long ago I noticed she was getting wider, and now she is even wider. She isnt bagging up at all yet. She has started to seperate herself from the others, which Ive read they do that not long before calving. If she is seperating herself, is there any general time frame to expect a calf? Should I have the vet on call just in case there are problems? Am I just being paranoid with the whole thing?

This is the first time we will have a heifer calving, and I know theres a greater chance of difficulties, and I know heifer can be unpredictable when it comes to calving. Im trying to be as prepared as possible. I guess I shouldnt plan on going out of town this weekend?

heh. i guess youve seen some brahmans calve at the place you work at? so you know they get looser than a goose eating jello before they calve. lets see some photos.

I only worked there over the summer, and I never saw any calving, other than the one that the vet had to come to pull the calf. What do you mean they get loose? Ill try to get some pictures tomorrow. The only pics I can get are from my phone.

her vulva will get super jiggly!-you know how the beefmaster did? well, you'll have to stand back when the brahman walks by so you dont get slapped in the face with her vulva b/c she will definitely be gettin jiggy wit it. itll be all over the place, lol. since she is a heifer she will probably build a pretty nice little bag, although sometimes older brahmans wont bag up at all until the calf is on the ground.
