calving season started early. brother went hog hunting this weekend and to put out bales of hay and noticed one cow ten acres away by herself. he went to investigate and sure enough a brand new baby calf. no sex or weight yet. i will drive down tonight and doctor, treat mom and calf. didnt ecpect for a couple more weeks.

Dropped our first one on the ground early this morning. Nice and healthy - pretty sure it's from the neighbors bull that got in with ours for about a week unnoticed. We aren't expecting full on for another two weeks.

I bought a heifer from my running buddies herd that passed away two years ago this month.

Caustic - are you saying you RUN??

Not that kind of running buddy.
I used to run at least a couple miles a day . When the odometer rolled a 5 on the front number back and knees were saying no more. I still walk a couple a day.

Good for you!!! I am very active, but NEVER was a "runner". I do RUN on occasion, after cattle!!
Yeah, cattle do make you run once in a while. Luckily it happens just when have to lead them to the new pasture. However, nothing makes you a better runner than sheep... And when you've to move them in and out of the barn every morning and evening...
Good luck with your calving season everybody!
