frankie - you're out in the field on this one I think - wayI read this - this person will have to keep a herd of cattle for some time - not like going to the vet with a couple and waiting a day or an hour for one or two to drop.
Tough to narrow down - like wife and me - 125 cattle and take to vet - one or two at a time when they are ready - different story and different method. Never met a full time vet who would willingly calve out a herd - too time consuming and too costly to his/her business.
Price is usually on a $$ per day plus work plus incidentals plus calf plus meds plus vet plus yardage plus deads plus plus plus plus plus.
I have done it on a handshake agreement - always fared well. On paper - forget it. If I need paper you take your cows home we will never have a deal and I will walk. Did it once and then had the leagle beagles involved dotting eyes and tees. Never again. Cows came the same time as the paper - I read it - would not sign - tied me up big time. Made them take the cows home - that or I turn them out on the road and you fetch 'em.
Handshake is best. Our herd in Alberta was there on a handshake for hmmmmm ..... I think it was almost 5 years. Wonderful folk and excellent cattle people. Honest as most journalists are dishonest. I could go and inspect / count any time - no notice required. Never did - but I did go a couple of times for a free supper - ya' just have to learn and time it right!
We will see if this person comes back, or stays away - any bets on the way Nicky goes? Too many question and not enough answers.
Stay well all,
Bez
