With sale yard purchased cows I have no idea what they are bred to the majority of the time. My bet on this little guy is a calving ease red Angus bull. He is a tiny little guy. The cow must have a red gene. She does like him and isn't fond of anyone coming close. I zoomed the telephoto out a bit to take this picture.

Yep. Leachman Above & Beyond was famous for siring calves that fell out like a wet rabbit, making one wonder, "Why did I do that?!" But they jumped up, nursed, and grew like blazes.
that's what we found with Salers cattle.. calves are born like wet noodles, even if their weights were considered high, they were long and slipped right out

I was just out checking for any new ones. The little red calf and mom were standing out there a ways from where he was this morning. Up and moving around is a good thing.
I was missing my last 2 born this week . Been unrolling a bale so the cows spread out and the babies curl up in the hay . So when I drove by the hay rings they were both laying next to a different ring . All the way across the 40 pasture from everyone else.

I've learned to move the rings even if there is still the bottom rail still with hay in it . Has helped about laying next to a ring.
