I could sit and watch the calves prance and play for hours. Had a bull (now steer) born this a.m. He doesn't even have a quarter ear so I am assuming he's sired from my neighbor's gate jumper. Good thing he aint a heifer.

It is amazing how they buddy up. I've got three that are about 5 to 6 weeks old that group when they are not nursing. BIL has two and I have three that are about 3 weeks old and they group. Now there's three within this last week and it seems there going to pal up.

One group gets to running with that tail up and then the others get excited. I know you all have seen it and are probably not amused but I enjoy it every year. Nearly 70 degrees here today, no flies, no misquitoes and happy calves.

I love to watch them run and play also get tickled when they realize while playing the herd has moved on. Then the race is on. I am hauling some six month olds to Crockett this morning after the fog lifts, sure is nice to be out in our normal winter weather again.

Amen fellas! I too think it's neat how cows socialize - how when you combine groups and the groups really kind of separate themselves still, and like you say how some of them buddy-up, and then those cows that seem to enjoy wandering off to themselves.
And it was GORGEOUS outside here yesterday. Supposed to be that way again today. And as you said bhb, how often do you get that with no flies or mosquitos? Life is good on the farm! (contented sigh)

Wathing the calves play is the best part of raising cows. Really tickles me when I sit on a rock and watch them and a cople of them will sneak up behind me to get a sniff and occasionally a bite at my shirt.

you just cant beat watching calves playing out in the pasture.when im madd or upset i go out in the evening an watch them.then i calm down.an am reminded why i have cattle.

Nice to read that we have soft side out there. Playing calves hmmmmmm. Even my 2 year heifers get to playing and chasing back and forth.
