Carried my old herd bull yesterday . Wasn't fat but wasn't bone poor . Weighed a little over 1600 and brought 1.35 a lb. I was hoping for $2000 or better and he did that . So I was satisfied.
Did you see the 2300lb bull that brought $1.55? I didn't get to go yesterday

I went to Arab and they sold 3-4 fat bulls that weighed over a ton and brought over $3000

Buy a pot load and ship them to Joplin. Not sure what breeds of cattle generally run down there but seems like there is money to be made in the price difference.

The 400 weight bulls averaged $0.50 back from the steers. I would be all over that. Pocket knife, some vaccinations, wean, and put a truck load off to a better market

B shipped 200+ head of 385 lb Wafyu heifers last week. He said they were going to Kansas. I wonder if they are going to be fed or for someone to develop into cows.

I was in the neighborhood today so I stopped in at Vale for a short time. Watched 12-15 401 pound black heifers sell for $4.40. I can't imagine buying in this market.

Maybe its not worth it but doesn't anyone castrate the bull calves there?

Right now, it is barely worth it , to castrate here when sold under 4 wts... unless you have bigger groups then it does help $.10-.30.... Definitely helps in the 5-7 wts.... but we have a guy here that buys bigger bulls all the time.. for going on a feedlot operation... and they bring near as good as the steers in the 8-11 wts... Over 11 they get sold along as bulls for slaughter most of the time.
Looking at that market report, it would sure seem to me to be worth banding them as calves to sell as steers... or buying some and banding, and/or working them and then selling in 30/45 days as steers... It's a .30 difference on the average... and I would bet you could pick up some on the low end of the price and get them worked and on some feed for 30-45 days and make some decent profit off them...
