calf warming boxes

CWB if just what it describes. A box to put a calf in and warm it up. There are many versions. Some univ. sights have description to make one or they can be purchased. They are used when a calf is born and is too cold to get up and suck. The boxes usually have a heat lamp & fan. Some have a heat pad on the underside. We aren't that fancy, we just have a heat lamp in the corner of the pen & make a nest out of straw for the calf to lay on (or we drag it under the light).
But, if a calf is born outdoors & is found alive but cold, it needs to be heated up as quickly as possible. Submerging them in warm water is a quick fix (bathtub). Hold their head up & stay with them. Than get warm colostrum into them as soon as possible, so they are getting warmed up from the inside out.
