Hi
I inherited a bottle calf in february. She had a tough beginning, frost bite, thin, etc. I bottle fed her for about 2.5 months along with another little bull calf we had. They both did fine, but she was never a ball of fire. Always slow to come up, but ate well and did all her bodily functions normal. The end of April, we moved them out of my backyard out to the pasture with the big cows. Unfortunately they never integrated with the other cows, but stayed together and were doing fine. Then last weekend I went out and could not find her. She was laying on the ground, foaming at the mouth and was doing a sucking thing on her elbow. I loaded her up, took her to the vet, they gave her a shot of banimine and resflor, thought she had over heated and had pneumonia. Took her back home and put her back in the yard, got a bottle of electrolytes down her, and she also drank a couple gallons of water. All in one sitting. The vet said let her drink all she wants since she was also dehydrated. Well, she was eating grass, sweet feed, and doing better. I was also giving her some of that super nutrition in a bottle stuff with vitamins and minerals and calories. She took that well. Then today, we were putting her in her little cow house since it is cold and rainy, and she started out OK, but then started walking on her knuckles on her front feet instead of her hooves. She is still eating good, pooping good, but is still terribly lethargic. The vet thought maybe she got ahold of a poisonous weed at the pasture and has some CNS damage. That everything we have had the last week might be caused by that. I am just not real sure what to do for her or with her. Suggestions?
