Friend of mine has an Angus AI bull calf that has injured his back leg and want put any weight on it. He hasn't called a vet because an older farmer said the vet can't or won't do anything. Any ideas on what to do to help the calf. Or just let nature takes it's course?

If it has a broken leg he's looking at something around $1800 to mend it (or so I am told). If the calf is not all that big, steer it and take the hit on the leg. I'd put it in the freezer if it were me.

i had a calf with a broken leg """twice""" once at home, then in the alley at the stockyard by a bull that plowed him under.. it healed fine on its own...... probably in truth the only calf i ever made money on :cowboy:

how big is this calf? does it spend most of it's time laying? we had a 15 month bull that hurt his hind leg trying to breed a cow that was way to tall for him and he wouldn't put any wt. at all on the leg. He layed around alot then eventually he got better after about 2 to 3 weeks.

How long has he been limping? More than likely I would guess he'll heal up just fine on his own. Just like people, cattle too can pull muscles, sprain ankles, etc. If it is a break, that too should heal up enough to at least fatten up.
