Cal Mag Phos

I was told by a jersey guy that we could use Cal Mag Phos to help pick-up our jersey cow and it would help her to start putting weight back on. Is this correct?

It will "pick a cow up" if she has milk fever. Even so much that it gives her a heart attack if you give it too fast. Never heard of using it to put weight back on. In dairy cows, that's what corn is for.
