What is it?
If you're on Facebook, there was a recent post about By-O-Reg in the group Everything Angus Cattle. I haven't used it but here's a copy/paste of some of the responses:
I also was a Riomax 360 user. I reached out to Ken Stewart and we visited about the By-O-reg+ product. So, to make a long story short my herd has been on By-O-reg for 1 year now and the cows and bulls are in great condition. The calves are licking the tubs and are growing very well. I have not used any vaccines of any kind. I believe that By-O-reg with Garlic has really controlled the fly, tick and lice problems. This has really enhanced my Let'em Graze program with helping the forage consumption. I think that every bite they take is digested well and the nutrients our utilized well.
I was going the RioMax route but then spoke with James Caldwell at AAG, the company that produces By-O-Reg. He has a Phd, with a specific concentration in rumen analysis. Everything he said to me made sense. Josh comes into play here because he used RioMax before By-O-Reg, and runs a herd that I admire. To simplify things for my situation, I wanted a product that was far more natural than what I was using to enhance the health of the rumen, and to put the cattle in a calmer, healthier state of being. Nothing at all wrong with Gro Tec, it's high quality, but I think By-O-Reg has more of what I'm looking for, same goes for RioMax. I can give you James Caldwell's number with AAG, his knowledge of the rumen is impressive to say the least. When I choose products for my operation, I try to speak with folks that are a lot smarter than me regarding cattle nutrition, James Caldwell is one of them.
Q: Rio max enzymes are not heat protected and 110 degrees kills enzymes. So how can it work?
A: our products do not have enzymes and our coating technology protects our ingredients through heat and extrusion (for our pelleted products)
Q: Are they strictly a mineral tub or are they similar to Riomax
A: same concept in a way... but working in the ruminate animal and all species from more angles and with a better technology (CF20 coating technology)...we see the same feed savings and roughage absorption. Manure pats for me were as good or better this past winter.

Thanks. I saw that. Have seen a few responses from a few but most haven’t been on it long. Was wanting to see if any breeders on here were using it and their results. May try it on 1-2 groups.
The reason I asked here is that many in that thread promoting it just 10 months were saying how Rio was the best. I have researched some of them and they change brands like I change underwear. Was wanting comments from someone who makes Devon’s on results and not on what is newest.
Anyone used them yet and formed an opinion?

Clinchvalley86 with our stockpile fescue i like Crystalyx Fescuelyx for winter. TN coop in Newport is closest place i find it.
But found a tub at Clear Creek Mill that is very very close to it for 1/2 the price. Cooked tub and says usage is a 200 lb tub every 30 days per 25 cows. $110 per tub. I put one out about 12 days ago.

Good question. I feel without any proof that it adds some needed minerals and vitamins im not getting in dormant fescue. Its developed for use with the fescue to enhance the digestion also. It may be more for my satisfaction than it does the cows any good.
I put a couple co-op tubs out yesterday. They were $65 each. I figure they're cheap for a reason.
Neighbor was talking a few weeks back that he thinks some of the cheap tubs are causing problems that result in more opens than normal. So that got me to wondering.
Can't see how anyone can afford a $400 tub for commercial cows.

my stockpile isn't nearly as good as Kenny's I'd wager. I'm looking for convenient protein to aid in eating the brown stuff.

Any high protein will make them eat the brown stuff. But compare labels and daily usage and the cheap ones could be very expensive.
I'm taking note of how long these last. Planning to try the ones you mentioned next time.
What feed value does dead and dried out chicory stalk have ya reckon? I'm assuming face scratches are about it.

I assume not much value. Like doing soil testing the only way to know is get your extension agent to do some forage tests.
I sent a message to my extension agent this morning about testing mine once a month until spring.
that's a good idea!
reckon I could slip one in with ya? I'm curious what this weed patch I've got is... the plantain in particular.

The agent takes the tests. I wouldn't care at all if i took them myself. I bet yours would also.
I'm curious how yours changes as winter progresses.
If I can keep it on my mind I will get this plantain checked out. Seems to be the first thing they mow down, doesn't matter whether it's black, brown, yellow, or green.

Plantain is high in carbs but low in protein. The yellow actually is better for the body.

Sure is plenty of it.Clinch, you would really love to take a few forage tissue samples. They’re a little more expensive than soil samples most places, but you can use them in place of soil samples, as they tell you the level of P, K, etc, that is in the plant, not necessarily in the soil. It gives you the CP and TDN values that can tell you how to balance your ration, like a hay sample does. You need to do a few!
