Starting to get bull sale catalogs showing up. Seems like a lot of breeders are starting there own buy back programs. Just curious if anyone has participated in something like this and if you did were you happy with the price/results? Also, what did they require of you to participate in there program?

People who I bought bulls from for years did that. The up side was top of the market price, no sale commission, and most likely less shrink. They retained ownership on their own steers and heifers. They still retain ownership on their own calves but quit the buy back program. They more sickness in the buy back calves. There was a question on how well people were administering the require vaccination program.

Here they will buy back steers but not heifers.
Here their high-power heifers are also very high input, so not good replacement candidates.
Here they will bid at the sales barn, but do not buy direct, at least for average size operations.
Here they get a premium for their buy back bulls, so that bull needs to last several years to just break even compared to a less well known seedstock source.

So local results will vary, but a good cow maker bull is more profitable for me than a premium priced terminal buy back bull.
