butchering steers?

Help Support CattleToday:

It depends on what cuts of meat you expect to get. Back when all 4 boys were at home and eating 3 squares a day I've seen my Dad butcher them as low as 600 to 700 pounds, no feeding them out. But he was just looking for hamberger meat and "minute steak", no T-bones, Sirlions, Roasts, etc.

If you want some of the nicer cuts I'd think you'd need to take them to at least a year old, 1100 to 1200 pounds.
