How often does everyone sharpen bushhog blades? I sharpen mine after every use that I hit a rock or something hard. If I use to just cut grass or brush I sharpen once every 6 months my neighbor said he hasnt sharpened a blade in years and i looked at his blades he wasn't joking but it still cuts good and looks pretty neat. I guess my question is do you really need to sharpen bushhog blades?

For me, its kinda like cleaning your gun. Will it work if you dont? yes.. but will it work better if you do? yep

i sharpen mine about twice a season,, a good clean cut is essential to the grass's health.. a ragged cut can stunt growth and set up diesease.. cut weeds with a dull blade

You need sharp blades for cutting grass. And real dull blades for cutting brush and trees. That is if you don't want it to grow back fast.

I agree. You want the dull blades to skin the bark off the bigger saplings, rather than trying to cut them. Easier on the machine and guarantees the tree will die. I only sharpen when I am going into small brush/shrubs and long grass.
