I have a couple bucking bulls who have fairly hide, which attracts flies.
I can't (or rather, choose not) to use a rub with mineral oil or whatnot, because nobody's gonna wanna sit down on 'em with that junk all over 'em. I don't need any re-rides due to residue from a rub. Or guys demandin I buy 'em a new pair of 20x's. You'd be surprised what people try sometimes.
So I spray. And spray. And spray. And "wash" (with a garden hose and a scrub brush and horse shampoo on a LONG stick) every now and then, although this goes over like a bull in a china store.
I've heard the IVOMEC pour on wormer will retard the flies for a while. I usually use the pellets.
Is there any supplement/medication/whatever out there that will reduce the secretions? Is an excessively oily hide an indication of a systemic problem? Other than flies, these animals have no insect infestations that I've discovered.
The breeds involved are a Corriente and a good ole "swamp bull" that might have a little Brangus.
