Built some new fence

The neighbour and I removed 2 miles of old overgrown fence, prepared the line, and had a contractor come in and put up the fence. Neighbour has an excavator with a plate compactor on it for driving post so we drove pipe for all the corners and to hang swinging gates from. Feels good to have this done but there is so much more to do.

Looks real good. I don't have neighbors and I've got dense hardwood forest to clear but I've done about 1/2 mile so far this year and got another 1/2mi to go.

It’s a lot of work removing old wire when it’s grown right into the trees. I cut on either side of the tree and re-splice the wire. When I have a section that I think will pull I tie all the wires together and pull the section (hopefully it comes) out with the side by side the wind it up with the wire roller. Or just skip the side by side step and pull with the roller.

That 1/2 mile stretch I did all the wire is rolled up with the stumps/lower 4' of the trees and it'll all get burned then I'll ball the wire up and haul it away.

How did you remove the trees above the 4’ mark?

I tip them with the excavator then chainsaw above the wire. Cut the firewood into 10' lengths then haul the brush and stumps away.

Hardwood less than 6" and aspen less than 8-10" I just pinch with the thumb and break off above the wire.

I've only got another mile or so left with old wire the rest is virgin forest. It's a lot faster clearing without a tangled mess of wire, expecially when it's on the ground and gets stuck in your tracks.
