Anyone else have them bad? Went to central ky yesterday for a bull and never hit a one until we crossed the wabash river coming back into Illinois. Never had them as a kid but they've set up shop here the last 15 years or so.
 
Had to look them up. And that's a big YES. But they're attracted to water and the watershed lake is right by the house. Vile little creatures! K-State Extension says there's not much you can do to eradicate or control them but be diligent about spraying with DEET to avoid getting bit.
 
I don't mind myself so much. They drive livestock and deer crazy! I live between two rivers and they're thick here. We're always wet in the spring. The hot weather kills then off but they're a nuisance until that happens.
 
Ive seen them so bad along hiway 124 and 87 around Stowell, High Island and White Ranch you didn't want to get out of your vehicle certain times of the year. We call them black flies tho.
