My axis buck last yearI have taken 3 axis bucks over the years, with a 30&31” buck last year, and a red deer cow the year before that.
For free hunts I’m extremely grateful.
This is Texas, there’s lots of exotics.
The company I work for has a ranch. Those are great bucks. What are you referring to as free hunts?
Probably just holding handsVery nice! You're having them mounted, right?

I heard the aoudad were almost inedible, that’s why I didn’t want one of them, they did have some out there. The company I work for use to have a lease out in Comfort, TX. It was low fence but that area was covered up with axis, sika, and fallow. No season on exotics. I killed a nice aoudad around Barksdale, TX a few years ago. Man that was some tough meat, but we ate it.
A buddy of mine who was hunting with us, is big into making jerky. He made jerky out of the whole thing and we split it up between the 3 of us. I don’t think I would shoot another one though. Turns out, the one I shot was a trophy. We were hunting my buddies, in-laws place and the father in law had never shot one that big, so I was kind obligated to get it mounted. Those make good shoulder mounts, but are expensive.I heard the aoudad were almost inedible, that’s why I didn’t want one of them, they did have some out there.
They are not native.I live in Texas and had no idea we had those kind of deer![]()
