Yup there is no other cow worth owning in the western world.

Angus have it all, do it all and certainly provide the only decent way to make a living in the cattle world.

All those other breeds are certain money losers - that is why there are so many options available - after all, those big ranches need the big loss created by owning something other than black - it helps cover off their taxes.

Or you can look for the "fakes" - usually lots of holstein - or maine in them. But, lots of them grade out as CAB - so the money is there if you play the game right.

Best to listen to those Angus folks as they are the always first to let you know they are the best. Live here long enough and you will find they are really open minded about other breeds as well, so their advice is usually top notch.

Now - If you are truly interested, try searching this site - a pile of info on starting out and certainly lots of info on the BW breed as well as any other breed you might be interested in. You might also try searching the Ranchers site – there has been some discussion about BW’s over there.

That's the claim that all breeds make about their particular breed. A grain of salt is required when hearing/reading about various breeds. A big grain of salt, more like a 50 lb salt block.

Go to the sale barns in your area and sit through some auctions. Watch what fetches the most money in both sexes. Find a market for your cattle if you can. Study what thrives in your climate, knowing what you have seen in the marketing. Then decide what to do.

So true. Every breed has advantages and disadvantages. (except great and mighty Angus of course :roll:)
Breed assoc. or promos. fail to mention the disadvantages.

I suspect that there is as much difference within a breed as there are between most breeds. In any breed some strains that have been selected for calmness will be more gentle than the average. Kind of like the differences in the human breed.
 
When did everyone start putting in their own two cents to every post? Can we ever get back to the time when someone would post a question and get an answer to the ACTUAL question. This place is getting old in a hurry!

FYI: I dont know anything about British Whites. Sorry.
 
Mountainboy, We have british whites and british white crosses. They are great mothers and they have a calm disposition. We started keeping them because of these traits and they are good milkers and raise huge calves. The white calves are discounted at the sale barn when showing the british white colors. We breed ours to charolais bulls and they are yellowish white and sell very well. The charolais bull is the only bull we have found that will take out the bw color. We have never sold on the purebred market, so I cant give you any advice there. Good luck
 
i bought a couple of crosses and the only disadvantage is the markings. angus makes them black with alot of spots (like a longhorn). you can't get rid of the spots so they get discounted, the guy i bought mine from has some that are 15 years old and still raise good calves, . i love the ones i have, fertile, good mothers, etc. the char bull is a good idea or make them look real british white very few spots.

They are good cattle generally. You will usually get discounted for the points(black or red ears ,feet).
I have always wondered what breed would take these colored points away as i had tried several via ai and never had a great deal of luck. Personally I like the white cow with the black points. JMHO
 
ill start to study.at the sale thanks ben alot a help .im not going to sell pure bred whites .just a few along for fridge money or something like that . ill let yall know what i come up with

British Whites are a very much underrayed breed. They cross well with any breed. Colour might be a bit of a deterrent to some. They were pricipally used in Australia for an easy calver over dairy breeds. But I have seen them crossed with Brahman and South Devon and they take a lot of beating for their temperament and fleshing. They make good vealers. The cross puts lots of milk into the females that are produced.
