Brangus bred to charolais

If you breed a charolais bull to a Brangus cow what color do they come out

The ones I've seen, which I'll say up front hasn't been a lot, are gray or mouse colored with a little ear.

Smoky if a homozygous for black Brangus. Could be light red or orange-y if it is heterozygous.

I had a lot of white. Then dun/smokey and yellow.
But then, a some of these are 1/4 Hereford. And the black one doesn't have Charolais blood at all,

So far I haven't had any different colored calf's but this one made me wonder wit the white tail.

That's a typical trait.
But I can't remember what it's called. We call em skunk tails

Yep. The ones I've seen stay that way.

Usually get a hit at the sale too, for NO reason other than color

Here that probably means a 30 cent discount.

I'm surprised charolais are discounted in so many areas in the states. Up in Alberta charlais calves often times top the sales.

A full charolais or smokey crossbred will do well at the sale!

It's the skunk tails that get hit. Like I said, for no particular reason. Usually nice calves too. Just the wrong "markings"

A charolais bred to a skunk tail will normally still show the skunk slightly in the calf but isn't discounted like in a black or red calf.

Those skunk tails get discounted here unless they are mixed in with a group of obvious Char cross. Just a black skunk tail by itself gets discounted because buyer don't want longhorn or pinz cross calves. Both of those crosses can put a skunk tail on a calf.
