Should we name him "Brer Rabbit?" Youngest son's show heifer backed her hind end into a hollow in some blackberry vines, laid down and had her calf. I was getting ready to leave for work yesterday when I noticed she was in labor. Once the water bag was out, it took her about 30 or 40 minutes, unassisted. I pulled him out of the briers, and she went to work on him. 30 more minutes and he was nursing. 77# bull. About 2/3 eye pigment, pigmented scrotum, looks like he's going to be a fairly dark red like his sire. I like the look of him, especially an early indication of good stout bone in the legs.

After I left for work, son had to seperate the goofy butcher steer, as he was trying to mount the calf.

We have Mud Pie from my sons show hiefer. Had a 79 degree temp when found. Momma milks like a holstien and has always been fat.

Had a cow that from her first calf as a heifer alwasy calved in a MF rose patch. Whenever the calf wasn;t with her she would stash it in a MF rose patch. I have no idea how the calf got in and out of those patches.
