I've got a choice between coastal and blue grass hay for my show steer, as my sudan source is out of stock for the moment what with this terrible rain season we've had in Texas. I'm wondering which will do better for him? The coastal isn't real high quality but if it's better for him, that's what I'll use. What do y'all recommend?

Are you sure it is bluegrass hay or bluestem hay? There is considerable difference. Not aware of bluegrass being grown in Tx unless maybe on a golf course.

Would suggest you feed the type hay that is of the best quality. JMO

Good luck & best regards

Brock

From what I was told, it's bluegrass, not bluestem. I'll have to call the feed store tomorrow to doublecheck. Thank you, Brock. I'll let you know after I find out tomorrow.

If it is Bluegrass it will have more protien than warm season grasses. It would be the best choice.

Thanks. I ended up purchasing some high protein hay from a friend of mine, so had no need for the bluegrass. Thanks for your responses. :)
