Blue Dye in Boomless Sprayer

Photodegradable string works better for me. I can't see that blue dye if you pour a whole jug out on the ground.

Thanks for the input. Putting the finishing touches on the sprayer now. Hoping to spray some areas next month.

We have a cab tractor but I could see where it could be a mess.

Im really trying to avoid foam markers just because its one more thing to upkeep. I was debating just dribbling one strip under the sprayer if I end up having to.

I use red with the boomless sprayer on our 4 wheeler works pretty good. makes spot spraying really easy also

I've never really been able to see the blue stuff with either of my boomless nozzles even if I mix it really strong.
I do know one thing, that stuff undiluted, is hard to get off your skin. I can see individual droplets on leaves if I get off and look real close, but sitting in the tractor seat and looking out, nada.

Hope you find something that works.....I rebuilt mine last fall to do 60 foot swaths. When I tested it was throwing more like 75 feet. As hard as it is to gauge 30 ft at times.....60 is probably going to be near impossible.

What kind of pump & nozzles are you running?

I put a BoomJet 5880-3/4-2TOC40 Nozzle with a Hypro Silver Series 8 roller pump. Its says 63' @ #40.

Is "red" a type of dye?

Googled around a little bit. Is it called Mark-It-Red?

I want to say hi-lite or soemthing like that was the brand name got it from local farm store thnk said it was a liquid dye meant for foam markers. Worked pretty good on the 4 wheeler gave the grass a very light reddish tint in areas, might be harder to see from up on tractor.

Be carefull it can really make you turn color as well if you get some on you.

I have an old 200 gallon row crop spray rig I rigged with swinging arms. Put a #10 Hamilton nozzle on each end. Pump is an 8 roller cast iron pump I bought at tractor supply back in 2008. I run it with the 1000 rpm shaft.

Dye is a waste of money. Foam works well if your grass is short, no so much in a field of tall grasses like bluestems or Johnson grass. Even when it does work, you have to estimate the distance to the next row. Invest your money into a entry level guidance system. You will quickly wonder why you didn't do it 10 years ago. Saves a bit on chemical but the the best thing is not having the large streaks that you normally miss.

How much does an entry level system cost? Is it worth it if I am only spraying 50 or so acres a year?

Im mainly doing scendaros that will be 20-30' wide with huisatche, mesquite, black & white brush, yaupon, ect. I was hoping some thing would show up on the sides or ground that would be noticeable enough to know you hade been down it.

Im thinking try the dyes first. Its requires nothing but dumping a jug in.

If that doesn't work may have to look in to a foamer.

The gps deal got me to thinking. I have a tracking system from garmin that shows a google earth view and when ever you drive it makes a line. I might give that a shot on the tractor with the dye. You can plug it in to ipads and stuff for a bigger screen. Could it be that easy? :lol2:

I use a Trimble system. Paid about $1250 for it. I believe it is a EZ guide 250 or something like that. I have lots of funky shaped pastures with creeks running through them. You set the width and a few other settings and take off. It paints the screen to show where you have been. It has a thousand other features that I don't use much but one that I find handy is the acre tracker. It shows how much you get out of each tank. It is also very useful when putting out fertilizer with a buggy or seeds with a broadcaster. I also use it with an old grain drill instead of following tire tracks. I can get everything set up, put the wife in the cab and she sprays while I do something else. As long as the AC works and she can listen to an audio book, she good for most of the day.
