Blood vs urine preg test

I've used the idexx on-farm blood test with good results. However, I know at least a couple on here use urine tests. Is one more accurate? What are the reasons for using one over the other? I'm talking the chute side kind instead of shipping it to a lab. Thanks in advance!

My guess is that it’s easier to get blood than pee.
We urine tested a bull once I can’t even remember what for. But we put him in the chute, gave him a pretty healthy dose of Lasix and waited twenty minutes for it to take affect.

I am going to try the P-Test strips in the future. I have a few Idexx blood tests to use up. It doesn't sound that hard to get a urine sample... idk. For me, the urine tests will eliminate the expense of EDTA tubes and 18ga or 20ga needles. I plan to buy Solo cups for the urine tests. P-Test strip says 92% accuracy.

It's pretty easy to get them to pee. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on the urine tests. I changed from the the Alerty tests to the Pregnostx tests. A little cheaper since the alerty tests had a price increase and I've had some more easily readable results with them.

That's good to know that pregnostyx tests can be easier to read than idexx. Certainly are cheaper.

This is the urine test I found by emlabs. The instruction sheet on the website has more info. It sure seems easy enough even if they are moving around a little. It also says it can give some idea of pregnancy stage. I like the solo cup idea btw lol

So of those of you that have used the blood test how is the accuracy
I don't usually preg check everyone, just ones I'm questioning. If the blood test says open they are sold, even if she looks big like she could be pregnant. I do not keep them to find out if the test is wrong. Other times I have used the blood test to confirm cows I thought were open actually were. ...I have a recent post in another thread about heifers. Two feeder heifers looked pretty big so I pulled blood samples. One tested pregnant. I'll have to post on CattleToday when she calves. The open heifer is staying as a replacement because her dam is a decent cow. I think it only happened once. I ran an Idexx test but did not get a Control line. Essentially that one test was junk and I had to start a new test. There was enough blood leftover I did not have to pull more blood.

I use index like moses388. Only on questionable girls when the hour one-way vet trip doesn't pan out for one reason or another. Or checking a bit after the vet palp. I have not had a test not show the control line. I have double checked maybe 6 blood samples with a second kit to make sure it was correct or I wasn't crosseyed looking at the line I thought was there. None contradicted what the first test showed. It is a yes or no, and I'm good with that as I keep good notes on the ones I'm testing so I usually have a decent idea of the situation.

To my knowledge it has been 100% from those experiences. I've used exactly 120 tests over the last couple years including the double dipping. I think it is very good, but I'm seriously thinking about the urine test for ease of collection while not confined in a squeeze chute if it's accurate. Hope this helps.

The Emlabs pregnancy test is what we use and recommend. It's pretty easy to get a urine sample. First thing in the morning, when cows wake up, then stand up, the first thing they do is urinate. And this product also tells you what stage of the pregnancy she is in. The price is only $10 for each test. Low or no stress. A good deal.

Have you tried any blood tests before the urine? How's the accuracy?
