Read somewhere once that Blond cattle have the ability to twitch their skin like a horse to ward off insects. Anyone know anything about this? Boone

What, I was just stating that they are good cattle and that I don't know anything about the flies question he asked. That is all. What do you mean by your comment DOC?

Don't know about skin twitching, but one thing I've noticed is that flies seem to land and stay on the holstein calves that had more black on them than white. No, I don't have any scientific evidence to back that observation up...merely an observation.

However, if the calf's scoured, then all bets are off...more black, more white, whatever...flies do love them scours...

Boone, On Blonde web sites they say that the blonde cattle have the ability to do this & also sweat same way brah. cattle do. I`ll be able to tell you for sure this summer with any luck i hope to have a few grazing pasture. but, they will be only half blonde being as their dams will be Angus. purchased semen from Tx. spring this yr. Cows start calving mid Feb. 2007. I`m really looking foward to seeing these calves.

maybe cause black absorbs heat better than white.
