Ive got a year and a half old steer calf that died randomly and his whole front shoulder was gone when i found him. I would say it was a scavenger but the rest of the calf is left untoushed and his whole shoulderblade and front leg are gone....I have no idea what it is and i dont think there leg actually falls off when they get blackleg as well as this calf was treated for black leg but i heard theres alot of different strains of it , so its probably something else. do you have any idea?

There is no way to tell unless you had it posted by a vet. Blackleg can be anywhere, it is often accompanied by a high fever. Because of the fever they are often found in or near a pond or water source. No way to tell what happened now, but more than likely a Coyote got to it after it died. And no Blackleg does not cause their leg to fall off. The way we check to see if they died of BL is to press your thumb firmly on the back hip and run your thumb down the leg muscle. If you hear/feel a crackle sound it is a good indicator of BL.

Sorry you lost the calf and :welcome:
