Like the rest have already said, the chances of it being blackleg are nil. Blackleg simply doesn't affect animals older than a couple years.
My guess would be Anthrax. And unless the vet specifically checked for Anthrax, it wouldn't have been detected during an autopsy. Although, that wouldn't explain the buzzards not going near the animal....
