I intend to feed out a steer and a heifer, born on the farm about the middle of March. I'm guessing they are 450-500 pounds now. I have about a half acre of field corn that I want to turn them in on. Old variety, Reid's Yellow Dent. It is drying down now. Should I go ahead and let them in it? Should I wait till say Oct 1? What are the concerns with acidosis? They are grazing some pretty good mixed grass now, Bermuda and crabgrass mostly, and due to good rainfall, I have plenty of good grazing available at least through September. They seem to be doing well on pasture now. My guess is that there is probably 40-50 bushels of grain. Advice please. Finishing is new to me.
