I need to do a good inspection between the toes on the bottom of a bulls rear hoof. On my cows I have always looped a rope around the ankle and pulled it up and out to the side when they are in the chute. They can still kick a little but they usually don't. My vet uses a large hook just below the hock to pull a leg back and I don't think I have ever seen one kick with it. Maybe I need to find one of these hooks or try moving the loop up to the hock.

Anyway, this young bull (about 1100 lbs) won't quit trying to kick. Yes his head is in the gate and I have a pretty good squeeze on him and his leg tied back at the ankle but he is still trying to kick. Anyone have a better technique to secure a rear leg?

I forgot to mention that its only me so I would have to find away to tie his tail up also. I considered this, just haven't tried it yet.

Take a rope and drop the loop in the bottom of the squeeze in front of back foot. Mess with bull till he steps in loop. Pull tight and run the rope over the top of the squeeze. Tie the end to your 4-wheeler, truck, tractor or whatever and pull forward till his foot is raised to the desired height.
