Bermuda makes good hay that cows love

Don't worry, once you have enough to attract army worms they will eradicate it for you. We use to be 80% Bermuda pasture in the summer. Last year the army worms wiped out most of it and this summer the pastures are 90% Crabgrass.

Spray it with Grazon and it will knock it back hard for long enough to let something else come up.

FESCUE - I figure if I say it enough it may stick. :lol2:
Can you say summer???? :D :D

Thank you HD...First...Sky...I didn't plant this...it is volunteer. However, my crab grass is kicking tail right now...I don't need nor want fescue. In July and August when my fescue pastures are not doing anything my crab grass is providing very good nutrition. My cows love it...it works for me...I will stick with it. I understand fescue is perfect for a lot of folks...but one size does not fit all.

Yea...It is just common bermuda...I've never seeded in this pasture. Is it less palatable for cows??

Thanks,

Tim

Ok.. My mistake I was just trying to help you with all of your pasture woes. Carry on cowboy :cowboy:

99% of what's in my pastures is Fescue its maintained the cattle just fine. ;-)
Sky my fescue really goes dormant in June and stays that way until cooler weather sets in. Does your fescue carry you thru the summer? I just assumed it didn't.

Give me a freakin break Jules...Cowboy?? :bs: Never said I was a cowboy...or acted like one on this site. Always been polite and ask questions. I didn't ask about Fescue in my OP...By the way...you are the one with horses...who blames it on the wife...who thinks they are a cowboy???[/quote]

Cowboy was not intended as an insult geez... : I am scared of horses I for sure didn't bring them here.

It carries me all year even when I had a lot of cattle it grew and kept them fed and you know what kind of temps I have. I think many other people on here have fescue only. Stocking rate is another key factor when using it. I am not trying to hijack D&C thread though so will create another and we can talk there.

My cows won't eat common Bermuda either. The improved varieties I've dabbled with seem to be more palatae. I guess they perfer fescue or crabgrass over Bermuda. I also think it'd be a losing battle to try and eradicate it. Where I have common Bermuda, I've had it my whole life. Some places with it have been cropped, and there is still Bermuda there.
