Last night while driving down our dead end road to our place, I came upon a young deer buck with one antler broke off..he was running down the road in the same direction we were going. I sped up, and tried to get to one side of him. Sooooo my wife says " Dont run him down, or scare him". I told her, I was just trying to make sure he got on our side of the road so he jumps the fence onto our property, and not the neighbors! :tiphat:

Seems like it was the proper thing to do to me!!
 
I agree! You never can be too careful. I mean had the deer jumped on your neighbor's property it possibly could have got tangled up in the fence and torn it down. Then their cows would have gotten out and it could have caused a school bus accident this morning injuring countless people. Who knows, your quick whit and foresight in this selfless act could have saved lives! I might be mistaken, but I think they should probably name the next road or something after you! JMO
 
Redbull... funny you mentioned that, wife is making enchiladas, using ground deer meat. Can hardly wait..

no.. last years. Will be working on getting fresh ground next weekend. (opening gun season next Saturday)
 
Gun season has been open a week today there has been 22 killed and tagged off my place and 2 got away could not find. I was going out this morning 2 bucks and a doe in the bottom by house had a bead on a buck did not pull the trigger was afraid I would hit it and have to clean it. Out of all the deer killed no one has come by with any meat. Have a lot of friend at deer season and none at 4th of July.

You just need to get in the habit of buying two or three kegs of cold beer and who knows - you might see me at your doorstep. Or possibly laying in the brush in the backyard depending on the time of the day. ;-) :lol2:
 
Yep.. thats funny about losing the itch when you see a deer. Hunting is fun, but the real work starts after you pull that trigger. I still enjoy it, and look towards the end product.

That cleaning them thing.......
Every time after I shoot an elk I think I should go back to serious deer hunting.
This year after I got my elk I told my young partner that the elk was only 150 yards from the road and should be easy to get to the road. For some reason I failed to mention that it was 7 miles behind a locked gate. You would think a person would learn not to do this to himself.

That is what I do. And as long as I can keep getting Jr. to help pack them out I will continue to hunt those places. But he is getting to complain more and more which has me worried.
