Hi I was goning to buy some corriente cows but I was wondering if any one had a better breed for a 14 year old just starting out.

There is a topic on here reguarding them. You can also do a search and may come up with other ideas. BTW welcome to the boards.

Kane, if I was 14 and wanting in the cattle business I would start commercial. If at sometime later in life you are so infested with cattle breeding that you can't stand for the U.S. cattle population to not have some of your expertise then at that time buy a set of seedstock cows. In the short term I think you can make more money starting with a good RED cow which has already bred back and has a baby at side. Get the help of a friend and go buy the best cow you can find. She needs to be about 4 yrs old. If you have saved a considerable sum of money then buy several. You can't pay too much for good young cows. Use them all the way through school. When you get married you will have a nice start. Again don't worry about the price of the cow. Worry about soundness , productivity , etc. Get the help of some old man and tell him this is what you want.

if you know people that buy rodeo stock, coriente would be fine. otherwise you might want something that would sell good at a regular sale. herefords are good if you want something calmer
