Beefmaster Cows

I think I have made up my mind on my foundation cows. Beefmaster mamma cows seem to make a lot of sense to me. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I am going to run a rotation of black Angus and black Limousin bulls on them.

BTW - My brother could not be happier with the Longhorn mamma cows we brought up from Texas. 25 calves and about half solid black from the old owner's Angus. That has turned into a money maker for him. We are still waiting anxiously to see the Limo calves out of the Longhorns. Turned out the Longhorns were bred back so the Limo only got to cover 9 cows.

My beefmaster cows are by far the easiest keepers I have. Breeding, calving, & mammas. As long as you don't mind a little ear and underline they should be great.

I love the Beefmaster cows got the right amount of Brahma in them they are mostly gentle and are great at raising a calf. If you want them better get them now prices are going up fast.

It just seems to be such a smart composite. I might be wrong, but I have to think using the right bull with these big cows should be easy calving and decent size WW.

Unless you really want black calves I would use a Char bull seen some Char/Beefmaster calves and they are amazing.

HDrider i hate to tell you this but i doubt the price will ever go down on beefmaster cows or bulls.heck i wish i had set of reg weaned heifers to sell because they are bringing $2500 to $3000 so fast your head will spin.so you better plan on giving $3000 or more for any cows you buy.

I was just joking about my timing and luck. I have depressed housing markets in at least three states, and the stock market a couple of times. My timing blows. I will let everyone know when I buy in so they will know when the bottom will fall out.

All joking aside, I 'd just hope for decent prices and a steady market.

back in 07 you could buy cows for $1500.in may of 2014 i gave $2400 for a bred heifer.im going to a sale in 3wks and ill be real lucky if i get something bought for $3500.

In 07 I bought yearling heifers for $600-$625 from a breeder this year his heifers were $2000-$2500, and I don't think the heifers he had this year were as good as the ones back in 07.

Have a small heard myself, Before you drop the Angus on them, where you are located at. Please look at the Gelbvieh Bulls first. Right now I am running a Homo Black and Polled Bull. I sure you have seen them meat machines these guys are, My calves will start dropping in January. Knowing what i know now. Beefmaster mommas crossed with a Gelbvieh. They should break the scales. not to mention the maternal cows on both sides of the equation. Replacement Southern Balancer's ought to be Awesome. :2cents:

My back surgery stopped me from going to the sale on the 8th don't know what they brought there was only a few I liked there. I am going to call the breeders around me see what they got. I really want bred cows, pairs, 3 in 1s, or maybe a bred heifer if I like her enough not really interested in young heifers you got to wait to long.

HD was joking about the market falling out. I do think there is a time coming soon when Charolais sired calves are not going to bring the same dollars.

You cannot beat the Beefmaster x Red Angus crosses if you want to stay red.

Every one of those statements are Beefmaster X (insert your preference). It usually only takes a person trying Beefmasters for a person to be sold on them. Again, there's factor of buying from the right kind of breeder, but a good Beefmaster is an exceptional animal for most.
