Basic Bale Un roller ?

What is the simplest equipment to unroll a bale?
Thinking about a solid bar with removable collars on the end and a chain?

A couple of big spikes and chains might do it.

An actual bale unroller is worth having. ;-)

All I've ever used is the FEL. Set the bale down, points the forks at the ground on the side of the bale, give it some RPMs and flip the bale with the spikes. My kids all it "hay ball".

I do the same thing, except I put it on a hill and give it a push.

I haven't come up with anything yet but have always wanted to devise something that could be attached to the tractor easily, hook-up to the round bale, transport it and then unroll it. Rolling a bale down a hill is the easiest way but may not be possible for many. How does the chain play into your idea?

I welded some pins on the back of a flatbed pickup and used one of those 3 point unrollers with a 12 volt electric winch, made myself a hydra-bed! Used it for a few years before I could afford a regular hydraulic one.

By the way, your bar/chain idea is effective for unrolling. Have seen folks transport on trailers or tractors with FEL/grapple, then use a bar and chains to unroll.
