Looking for info on barbados sheep. Got suckerd into buying them for Grandsons.

Been reading quite a bit on the net but was wondering if anyone here had any hands on experience.

Of course ya'll know who will have to take care of them.

I'll do my best to keep them hid from the cattle.

Thanks Cal

Ps. A Ram (nice curved horns) an ewe and lamb.

Ive heard if I don't want a bunch I better keep the Ram away from the rest. Not unsual to have 2 lambs at a time.

Don;t believe the line of goods that they taste like venison. They taste like nasty sheep

dun

My in-laws had those. A ram and 15-20 girls. The ram still found time to tear up the side of the barn with his butting.
He got to running at people, and that was the end of that.

Had sheep for years--
Don't worry about them overpopulating-- even with two(or more) at a time.
They hit the ground just looking for a way to die :)

Watch the parasites-- they need alot more care than cattle to keep from being overburdened.
Theres a trick of checking eyelids every week-- when they look anemic- worm. And pasture rotation if you have many is a must.
What works best in the south is three pastures-- the sheep only use a pasture ONCE every year.

if they are barbequed right, they taste great!!!! Ya just gotta know what yer doin. In the ground wrapped in tin foil and a wet toe sack, fire covered up with a smoke pipe out the top, left in the ground all day, some good eatin!!!!!
