The smallest balling gun that I've got or have been able to find are too big for the smaller sized pills. When you rastle the calf to get it in about half the time the pill falls out and you have to start over. I put the pill in then put a gob of peanut butter over the end, holds the pill in and the stuff is eatable. I guess if you have a calf with a peanut allergy it could cause a problem though

Never tried it but it sounds like it certainly would work. I have just put my hand with the bolus in it down their mouth and pushed it into the throat and held their mouth shut until they swallowed it. Never did it too many times but did do it. The PB would have been much easier.

You got that right....I hated calves.....but....that's why every dairyman needs a good wife to raise the calves. My wife was the best. :tiphat:

Can a calf actually have a peanut allergy? My son has a severe peanut allergy but could use something similar.

Plain butter would probably work. Don't know about the allergy but I do know free choice peanut butter will kill a cow and large quanties of peanut butter placed in a tub grinder with hay will create a huge gommy ball that only a dung beetle could love. That's about all I know about peanut butter and cows. :dunce:

One year I had got a bunch of peanuts for free and decided to get some to the cows in their feed, so when I was grinding corn I out the peanuts in the hammermill and what a mess I made. It really looked like a great peanut butter mill. It gook me hours to clean it out enough to get it to turn over so I could put more corn in to clean it all out.
