I have a piece of hay that the seed is about 15 years old. I'de like to seed it back down to something that would make good Baleage. It isn't exactly the most driest ground but its not wet. It drains well just low elevation. Anyone have any recommendations for my milk cow feed? I'm looking for thick grass with a lot of milk. Keep in mind, if somethings happens and I can't wrap it, I'de still like to make it for hay. Thanks for your input.

Yes, alfalfa makes excellent feed, but there is a very real problem with bloat when one grazes it. Given the conditions of this field, alfalfa would probably also cause a few problems if trying to bale it because of mold.

I think that needs further clarification. My brother used to have wheat in some bottom land on the little river that drained well; that is the 9 months out of the year it actually drained. Im sure he doesnt mean this, but it was the first thing that popped into my mind.

ok, use rye, it makes good baleage and if it gets too wet the seed isn't that expensive. There are some new varieties that allow repeated cuttings and aren't that expensive.
