Baldy, brockle, defined

Could I get the specific definitions of these terms:

baldy
brockle
goggle eye

I have a general idea of what these are, at least i thought i did, but I don't hear people around here use those terms much. "White face" is what most use here. Can one use white-face as a correct descriptor, or should these terms be used?

brockleface is where you have little spots of white on the face, I consider 'whiteface' and 'baldy' the same.. mostly white face

Baldy and white face are basically the same. Brockled is a mix white and colored face or spots like freckles. Goggle eyed is bug eyed to me, eyes are far apart and big

They're all same to most people.

Just for record, Google eyes are not bug eyes, more like dark pigment around the eyes.

brockle A baldy, but with spots or blotches of the primary color mixed in the white. I don't think I'd heard the term before coming to this forum. I grew up calling that pattern a mottle-face or speckle-face.

goggle eye Since the other terms you asked about are about color, then I assume that's what you mean here, so it's a baldy, with a large spot of the primary color around each eye. I've also seen the term used to describe an animal with protruding eyes.

As far as which one is correct, like so many things it depends on where you are and who you're talking to since there are regional differences.

All three of those color patterns generally indicate some Hereford ancestry, though it could be Simmental. There may be others. Incidentally, there is at least one more term you didn't mention. Blaze-faced indicates an animal with a large vertical band of white down the middle of the face between the eyes. Again, there may be regional differences, so if someone disagrees it doesn't mean either one of us is necessarily wrong.

I was always told a blaze face is more likely to have simm blood? I don't know if anyone else has heard that. Goggle eyes are sometimes called panda eyes.

Yes goggle eyed is colour around their eyes, bug eyed has eyes that physically stick out, kind of like a frog. This guy would be bug eyed, not just surprised. ha

Blaze face is just a streak of white across the face. So I guess I would also call it blazed face, as not quite enough white to be a baldy

Sorry guys. Never heard of goggle eyes here I guess, on regards to color. Have heard it used on a bug eyed looking calf a few times. I learned something

bugeyed= :shock: eyeballs seem to stick out--shallow eye sockets or poor bone structure.
Goggle eye is dark pigment around or under eyes on whiteface (Hereford type or Hereford influenced cattle--goggle eye is a desirable trait most of the time)

Randiliana gave you some great pictures for examples. The term blaze around here is normally for a horse, but for cows refers to a hybrid simm that is black in most part but has a white streak down its face/nozzle. The old guys around here used to call white face cattle what really was hereford cattle that was pure bred but not registered. They were good cows that were "baldy makers"..

we use the term motley faced. depends on what part of the country you live in as to what stuff is called.

We call a cow marked like that freckle freckle faced, brockle would be bigger splotches of color
