Bad Warts

We've got a steer out on our place that started off with one little wart on his nose so we duct taped it and it went away. Now a few months later, the one he had has come back as well as many others around his nose, under his chin and a couple behind his ear. Is there something we can use for getting rid of them? Will that wart freeze off work for cattle?

Tear of a number of warts. That will get the immune system to kick in and get rid of them.

If that fails, good nutrition and time will surely solve the problem.

I have noticed that heifers are more proned to warts in my herd and as soon as they start the next growth spurt the warts dissappear. I found that warts are more common between weaning age and about 13 months. After that it is seldom a problem.

Unless it is developed from the warts you have or you get lucky and it is whatever types are in the vaccine, it's pretty much a waste of money

I heard about the warts vaccine only yesterday, but I dont think we can get them around here right now.

KNERSIE, This boy is 14 months and has just had a bad break out, could be the best age for it.

I'll try what you guys suggested and see if it works. We've got fair first week of April so we want them gone!

Sullivan carries a wartsoff ointment. (http://www.sullivansupply.com/Iowa/detail.aspx?ID=12871) I am not sure if it works, but we keep it on hand just incase. I also heard some old rancher say that if you cut them off, and feed it to the cow, it builds immunity towards it, I dont know if I would try that, but just wanted to throw that out there.

If you cut them off you can eat them yourself or feed them to the neighbors dog, it will still work. It's the cutting/tearing them off so that they bleed that does the job.
