Backwards

Spotted a heifer laying down with just one foot sticking out. Came up to the hosue and got the chins etc. By the time I got there she had squirted the backend up to the neck out under a fence. I went to her and made her stand up and the head popped out. Poked a tick in it's nose and cleaned the sack off of his head. 5 minutes later he was almost standing, 10 minutes later was up and sucking. These darn things sure amaze me sometimes.

Sure could have turned out a lot different than it did. glad it was ok.
I guess thats the reason I love this business.. never know how things are going to turn out, and just the amazement of all that goes on with calving.

That's one reason I like those little 70-80 lb calves, especially from heifers.

I wonder how often it happens backwards and we don;t know becuase we only see it up and bouncing around instead of in the process of coming out

I wonder about that too, because your right.. about 99% of the time I show up AFTER its been cleaned .

Not really, because usually you get there and find a cleaned off dead calf. If you didn't see it happen you'd never know they came backwards.
The ones you find cleaned off with their head tucked under their shoulder are a bit easier to figure out.

isn't it nice when things just.. WORK? I had a cow that surprised me once.. she was standing, and when she'd have contractions I could just see the feet.. I ran to the house (100 yards) and back, and she was licking it off... She didn't want to be watched I guess
