Good Morning,
I am scour guarding for the first time and wondering what has worked best for any of you out there? I have looked at 3 or 4 products. Some recommend before breeding and then again before calving 8 to 10 weeks and then again 3 to 6 weeks.

Sick calves are not fun
Thanks

We used to use scour guard. Now scour bos.

Scour guard...
first shot done in the fall at preg test time. Booster done 1 month or so prior to ( could be mistaken) calving. RE booster at 16 weeks to animals not calved. The following year not done in the fall except to first time calvers

I started using Calf Guard this year , and it seem to be easy to use, and haven't any problems with scours yet.
Just mix the two vilies, then squart it down the throat of the calf with in 24 hours.

Calf guard is good, used that in the beginning.
Draw backs... timing is everything.
It is best given before the first suck. This can be difficult as not all mothers take a liking to one messing with their calf.
It takes two people to do this sometimes to ensure safety
It can, or we have seen it mess with the mother/calf bonding in the beginning especially with hiefers.

2 years ago, every calf born in one pasture scoured and one died after nursing her for a month. Last year for the calves born in that pasture we did the ClafGaurd deal and we didn;t have a single calf scour. This year after cutting the herd down to about nothing we calved in a different pasture and haven;t had a problem without using it.

Well we tag and spray with Iodine when they are first born anyways, so throwing in a squart down the throat into the mix wasn't that much harder on the calf or mother.
