Has anyone used a deer feeder to feed cows?

I wouldn't have it broadcast. I would attach corrugated pipe to the underside and funnel it to a feed trough.

The ones I've seen for cattle are absolutely outrageous.

Thoughts?

an auger with a 12v motor and a timer would work but depending on what yer feeding it will bridge real bad and not feed

You can put feed out free choice, and add salt. The salt will be a limiter. It will stop them from eating their fill. I would only do that during a drought myself.

What are you feeding and how many head?
We use covered bunk feeders feeding cotton seed meal and salt.

I don't have a lot of cattle. 6 head right now, This is the situation I"m in. I work out of town and only home fri-sun. My wife works 40+hrs and we have 2 children under 3years.

While giving my life story, I need something that can give the cows a little grain everyday without my wife having to do it. With the time change she getting home after dark.

I don't see why something on a timer wouldnt work. Lick tub and a round bale would be pretty simple while perhaps feeding cubes a couple times a week. Convenience is costly, but there's only so many hours in a day.

Get you some Mix-30 and give it to them free choice, they will eat 2 1/2 to 3 lbs a day, sure does them a lot of good.

or rangemeal and a round bale. 6 cows, a bale would probably last a week.
