Heart of Dixie
On Saturday, Randy Owen (from the Country band Alabama) is having his 6th annual fall Angus sale in Fort Payne AL. I'm going up early Saturday to the sale to maybe pickup up a couple of bred hefiers or young bred cows.

A week or so ago I decided to ride up on Friday (today) to look over the cows and hopefully get an idea of how the cows look when compared to the description in the sale book. I invited my wife to go along. All was set we were to leave here around 10:30 and make the drive up to Randy's place to arrive around lunch.

A few days ago, the wife wanted to know if we could leave at 10am so we could make a slight detour so she could go by a store to check on picking up a gift. I said "No Problem."

This morning when I got up, the wife was looking thru the after Thanksgiving sale papers and wanted to know if we could leave at 7:30 because she wanted to make some more detours to a few other stores. I said "No problem."

I love my wife. So, I might get to look at the cow for a couple of hours, As it turns out.

I think it must be a genetic trait that allows women to shop for such extended lengths of time without any adverse physical or mental problems. Graying hair and ulcers seem affect me if I'm in a store for any length of time. But it sounds like a fair trade. My wife doesn't seem to grasp what it is about a cow that takes me so long to look at.

I am somewhat familiar with that area and was wondering if you know if Day's Meat is still in business in Centre? Best store bought meat I ever tasted. Also, have you ever eaten pizza at Mater's in Gadsden? Best pizza in the world. :P

Is he working on a "new" breed? I think it may have been called South poll? If so, I heard a presentation given by him a few years ago. Interesting person and ideas. Does he have a web site?

That is the other band member. Teddy Gentry, that developed the South Poll. They had a special sale at Kilpatrick Stockyard several yaers ago. He made a speech about the way they were crossed. Randy was there also. The name of his farm is Bent Tree farms.

you know wemen love to shop the day after thanksgiving.i sure didnt know randy changed over to angus.he was in reg polled herefords 17yrs ago when i was in them.

Last time I was in Anniston, they had a "Mater's" there too!

That's just above Rod a few miles.

Cmon Jo not all women are like that. You can not get me into town the day after Thanksgiving short of using a loaded gun. ;-)
Unless I have to get things I hate shopping. Husband loves that fact.

Joo and Mike,

The pizza place is called Mata's Greek Pizza. The orginal owners were Mr (forgot first name) & Mata Rodolphus. They do make the best pizza around. The daughter and S-I-L run the pizza places now. I have spent many an evening enjoying the pizza. That's why I look the way I do now. ;-)

As far as the cattle at Tennessee River Music LLC, According to David Cagle, Ranch Manager they are mainly in the polled Herefords but have about 70 head of Angus cattle. We saw some nice looking Herfords in the pastures on the way in.

Next time you talk to them, tell them you know some redneck from the swamps of Georgia that goes to Nashville Tenn by way of Gadsden Ala just so he can eat their pizza. Not leaving a small carbon footprint by doing this but what the heck. I think it was the PoBoy that I like to order. Been some years but would do it again in a heartbeat. :P
