Are the pop up ads random?

I was wondering if the pop up ads are randomly selected? Sometimes the ads seem to be randomly selected, and other times it's like someone is using your browsing history. IDK
It's no worry either way just curious, but that ugly picture hasn't popped up since the thread got locked. I'm not complaining.

Generally it's based on your browsing history. If you have ever looked at election information/returns/articles, that would do it. That's what the Bots do. Sometimes I agree it looks pretty dam random like they;re just shooting in the dark hoping to hit something. I'm using firefox and have a pop up ad blocker running in ti so I don;t see the ads at the top at all anymore.

Like dun, I use firefox with an adblock.
Google knows what you like, and they target the ads.. CT doesn't have control over individual ads, just the provider.

I switched to firefox from google chrome. The ads seem to be causing less computer slow down since switching.
All the ads appear to be based on my browsing history.
